Stress & Health

Is your stress
changing your health?

Most stress assessments measure how you feel. This one measures what's actually shifting — across six domains, anchored in peer-reviewed evidence.

The Science

What stress actually does

Stress doesn't stay in your head. It accumulates as allostatic load — the cumulative physiological cost of chronic activation. Your body's stress response was designed for acute threats. When it stays on, it starts eroding the systems that keep you well: sleep architecture fragments, heart rate variability drops, inflammatory markers rise, and social withdrawal compounds the damage.

The research calls this cascade predictable. The Alignment Pulse detects it as compound patterns — like System Overload (when mind and recovery fail together) or Burnout Signature (when mind, purpose, and recovery all drop simultaneously).

g = 0.81
Effect Size
HRV biofeedback produces large effects on stress and anxiety across 24 studies. Heart rate variability training directly counteracts the autonomic dysregulation caused by chronic stress.
Cyclic sighing
Outperforms Meditation
Five minutes of cyclic sighing reduces physiological arousal more effectively than mindfulness meditation — a controlled breathing technique that directly downregulates the sympathetic nervous system.
g = -0.63
Sleep → Depression
Sleep improvement produces medium effects on depression (g=-0.63) and anxiety (g=-0.51). When stress fragments your sleep, fixing sleep fixes more than just tiredness.
Six Domains

Where stress shows up

Stress rarely stays in one place. It migrates across systems. The Alignment Pulse measures six domains to find where your stress is actually landing.
Mind
Racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, persistent worry that won't resolve with logic alone.
Body
Jaw clenching, shoulder tension, headaches, GI disruption — the physical ledger of sustained activation.
Movement
Exercise drops first. Too tired, too busy, too overwhelmed. The body stops moving when it's in survival mode.
Recovery
Sleep fragments, rest feels impossible, and the overnight repair processes that buffer against stress break down.
Connection
Social withdrawal. Canceling plans, shorter replies, a quiet drift from the people who matter most.
Purpose
The work still gets done, but meaning fades. Goals feel hollow. Motivation becomes obligation.
The Alignment Pulse

What this measures

Not another subjective stress quiz. The Alignment Pulse is a 90-second daily check-in that scores six health domains, detects compound patterns, and maps evidence-based interventions to what's actually shifting.
90s
Daily Check-in
Six questions, one per domain. Score yourself honestly. The Pulse does the rest — calculating your alignment score and detecting multi-domain patterns.
6
Compound Patterns
When domains fail together, the clinical picture changes. System Overload, Burnout Signature, Withdrawal Pattern — each requires a different intervention than any single domain alone.

Peer-Reviewed Studies
Every recommendation links to the original research. Meta-analyses, RCTs, and longitudinal studies from JAMA, The Lancet, BMJ, and more. Every DOI is verifiable.
